Alan concentrates his practice in various types of civil litigation and transactions. He represents individuals, municipalities, government officials, and companies in a variety of practice areas including commercial real estate, corporate law, civil litigation, estate planning, zoning, planning and land use law, appellate practice, traffic violations, residential real estate, landlord/tenant, public health law, environmental law, tax law, local government law, and general civil litigation.
Alan is a Randolph County native. He was a member of the first graduating class of Eastern Randolph High School in 1969. He is a 1973 graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill and a 1976 graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill School of Law.
Alan is an "AV" rated attorney, the highest rank given by Martindale-Hubbell. He has served in several prominent governmental and administrative positions for the County and State. He served as Special Counsel to Governor James G. Martin, General Counsel to the Speaker of the NC House of Representatives, Harold Brubaker, Deputy Director of the NC Department of Administration, and Secretary of the NC Department of Crime Control and Public Safety. He served for fifteen years as Randolph County Attorney and is counsel to the Board of Randolph Community College.
Active in community organizations, Alan has served on the boards of the Asheboro Rotary Club and the United Way. He has been an assistant scout master and participates in the local community theater.
